Franz von Suppe
Light Cavalry Overture

The Overture to Light Cavalry, was composed for the comic operetta that Suppé premiered in 1866. While the operetta fell quickly into obscurity, the overture is still performed often. The work takes its title from the elaborately uniformed Hussars, the skilled horsemen who were lightly armed to promote their agility in battle, who are featured throughout the operetta.
