From Lance Hardin, Boulder Ballet Artistic Director

In the fifteen months I have been Artistic Director of Boulder Ballet, it is difficult not to acknowledge all that Boulder Ballet and our community have endured in that time. For us, canceled auditions and performances, the introduction of Zoom classes, reduced class sizes in the studio, and many temperature checks were a few of the obstacles faced. We have happily returned to the studio with precautions and found ourselves in a position that brings smiles to so many faces, including our own. The support we have felt surrounding this production has been overwhelming. We are thankful for this opportunity and grateful to share it with all of you. I am so proud to present this year’s production of The Nutcracker.

Traditionally, Nutcracker is a time for new beginnings as young dancers join our cast every year that have never participated before. Unfortunately, we were unable to safely include students aged 11 and younger this year. We look forward to 2022 when we can include them as they are so vital to our production.

Our longstanding collaboration with the Longmont Symphony is such a pleasure to revisit each year. This production carries special meaning having not had the opportunity to perform for you a year ago. The beautiful music the LSO provides is exceptional and foundational to this performance and our dancers.

New to this production we have added the English gigue, music originally composed for The Nutcracker but stricken from the debut. Thank you to LSO conductor, Elliot Moore, for helping us make this bright addition to our Nutcracker.

We are thrilled about our 2021-22 season of eclectic performances. We look forward to seeing you in February for Black Voices of Dance and in May for our spring production Masterworks. From all of us at Boulder Ballet, Thank you for your presence and support.
