Korean-Canadian Bass Won Cho is in demand in both concert and operatic repertoire worldwide thanks to his energetic voice and strong stage presence, appearing with many of the opera houses and orchestras of the U.S., Canada, Europe, The Middle East, and Asia. Critics hailed Cho’s performances with the following reviews: “Expertly played whose deep tones vibrate the seats.” / “One wished the score let him sing his overcoat aria twice.” / “Won Cho steal(s) the show.” / “Deep resonant mellifluous sound"/ "He sang with a grave, classic beauty." / “A particularly dark, melodic yet rafter-ringing bass that is worth the price of admission all by itself.”

His performances in the last few years took place in Montana, Georgia, California, Palm Beach, Miami, Tampa, Orlando, Birmingham, Nashville, Anchorage, Luxembourg, France, China, Cambodia, Thailand, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Serbia, Austria, and his native Korea.

His recent solo performances have been in Turandot with Opera Naples (FL), Messiah & Bach’s Magnificat with Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Così fan tutte, Roméo et Juliette, and Madama Butterfly with Opera Tampa, and Romeo and Juliet, Rigoletto, Hamlet, The Magic Flute, and Cinderella with Opera Birmingham.

Dr. Cho studied at Manhattan School of Music, Boston University, and University of Memphis. He is an accomplished voice teacher and opera director with over 30 operas and opera scenes under his directing and producing credit.

He has served as faculty at University of Northern Iowa, State University of New York in Fredonia, University of South Florida, and is currently an Associate Professor of Voice at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
