Soprano Alicia Russell Tagert has sung throughout the United States, beginning with her professional debut with her hometown Asheville Symphony Orchestra in 2013. Her upcoming engagements include debuts at The Glimmerglass Festival covering Musetta (La bohème) and Virginia Opera as Waldvogel (Siegfried). Recent performances include Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro (Fargo-Moorhead Opera) and Morgan in Fierce, the anticipated world premiere with Cincinnati Opera. She was scheduled to make her company debut with Lyric Opera Unlimited in the anticipated Chicago premiere of Blue (postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19).  Her role performance highlights include Musetta in La bohème, Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, and Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus.

Her recent concert performances include a 2022 debut with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. Past performances include Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915; Handel’s Utrecht Te Deum and Messiah; Honnegger’s King David; Mozart’s Requiem and Missa in C Minor; and Vivaldi’s Dixit Dominus, RV 807

A competitive force, Alicia is a 2023 Lotte Lenya Competition semi-finalist, and in 2022 was a semi-finalist in the Shreveport Opera Singer of the Year Competition and an Opera Birmingham Vocal Competition finalist. She is a four-time award winner in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, her most recent prize from the 2022 South Carolina district. She holds a Master of Music from Northwestern University and Bachelor of Music from Furman University.
