Cordelia Anderson
Soprano

Dr. Cordelia Anderson is Assistant Professor in Vocal Studies in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Alabama State University. Her teaching duties include applied voice, diction, vocal pedagogy, voice class for non-majors and instrumentalists. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Anderson earned a Bachelor of Arts in vocal performance from Alabama State University, Master of Music in vocal performance from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in vocal performance from The University of Nevada Las Vegas.

Cordelia had the honor to perform for the unveiling of the U.S. stamp of world-renowned opera singer, Marian Anderson. She is a three-time winner of the National Association of Teachers of Singers (NATS) Vocal Competition for the Alabama Chapter and Cal-Western Region. She has performed for the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS) program in Graz, Austria, and was a Young Artist for Opera Las Vegas for two full seasons. Cordelia is also a performing participant of the Lauren Flanigan Audition Bootcamp in New York City, a four-week intensive summer program, and has recently performed internationally in Spain and Croatia.

The roles she has performed include Suor Zelatrice in Suor Angelica, Dolce Arpista in Pietá (a newly commissioned opera), Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro, Suor Angelica in Suor Angelica, Madama Butterfly in Madama Butterfly (Flower Duet Scene), and chorus work for two seasons with Opera Birmingham. On the concert stage, she has been a soloist for Handel’s Messiah, John Rutter’s Requiem, Dubois’ Seven Last Words, and Mendelssohn’s Elijah.
