Mickala Cheadle Josey
vocal artist

Mickala Cheadle Josey is a born-and-raised Oakland native whose extraordinary vocal talent and musical artistry have captivated audiences for over a decade. She began her formal musical journey alongside her musical parents and at the age of 10 she was accepted into the prestigious Young Musicians Program at UC Berkeley. There, she spent eight years studying classical voice under the guidance of the late David Tigner, laying a strong foundation for a career marked by excellence, discipline, and versatility. She later continued her studies at Fresno State University, where she majored in Vocal Performance and distinguished herself within the Opera Music Theatre Department, earning multiple awards for her exceptional soprano performances.

Recognized as one of Northern California’s most dynamic and sought-after vocalists, Mickala commands the stage with a rare blend of technical mastery and emotional depth. Her musical range spans classical, spirituals, pop, and rhythm and blues, allowing her to seamlessly cross genres while maintaining a signature sound that is both powerful and deeply expressive. Audiences know her as a true powerhouse, particularly for her electrifying tributes to music legends Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston.

Mickala’s career has afforded her the opportunity to collaborate with iconic artists including Stevie Wonder, The Braxton Brothers, Ledisi, and Dave Hollister. In addition to her work as a solo performer, she is an independent recording artist, background vocalist, and choral vocal arranger whose talents extend from studio production to live performance.

She currently performs with The Future Perfect Band, proudly continuing the musical legacy of her late father, Michael Cheadle, whose influence, artistry, and spirit live on through her work and the band’s evolving sound. She also serves as the Minister of Music at Beth Eden Baptist Church in Oakland, California, where she continues to inspire through ministry and song. Above all, Mickala is a devoted mother to her daughter, Madisyn, whose life and legacy remain central to her purpose and passion.
