Double Bass Concerto No. 1
Andrés Martín

Native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, bassist, arranger, and composer Andrés Martín has performed with orchestras. chamber ensembles and as a soloist in Argentina, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Uruguay. Chile, Brazil, Mexico, England, Germany, Italy, Spain, Denmark and United States. Since his arrival in Tijuana (Mexico), Andrés has been immersed in teaching as well as performing as a soloist and chamber musician.

He has been the principal double bassist of the “Orquesta de Baja California”since 2002. He also organizes and directs “Contrabajos de Baja California A.C. ”, a Double Bass academy who celebrates a yearly international double bass festival and chamber music course held in Tijuana.

Along with his work as a soloist and chamber musician, Andrés has full-time schedule as a composer, with works commissioned and performed by renowned soloists, chamber ensembles and orchestras around the world.

In 2023, some of his works have been or will be premiered in different parts of the world such as “Abrazar al Viento” for chamber quartet, "Beyond self” for Violoncello and double bass” “VOX Concerto for violoncello and orchestra”, “Noche de Alebrijes” for double bass and string orchestra, “New Beginnings, concerto for Hutchins Violin Octet and Orchestra” and “Aria, concerto no.3 for Double Bass and Orchestra”.

The signature series double bass Andrés designed for Eastman Strings was officially introduced to the market during the fall of 2021

Andrés is currently working on a Violin Concerto and some other small chamber works.

​Martín’s Double Bass Concerto No. 1 was written in 2012, and has since been performed in more than 25 countries around the world.  It was chosen as a test piece by the Bradetich Foundation International Double Bass Competition, the One World Symphonic Festival Camerata, and the Sphinx Strings Competition.
