Betsi Hodges is the staff pianist for Opera Idaho. In addition to the main-stage productions, she accompanies the Art Song Recital Series, Operatinis, and In Good Taste performances. With the Opera Idaho Emerging Artists, she has presented school shows for thousands of elementary school children throughout the Treasure Valley, McCall, Moscow and Pocatello.
Originally from St. Louis, MO, she received her Bachelor’s degree from the Eastman School of Music and her Master’s degree from Michigan State University, both in piano performance. She completed her Doctorate in Accompanying and Chamber music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she held a graduate fellowship as the pianist for the Liberace Trio. She has been the collaborative pianist for programs such as the Eastern Music Festival, the Bernard Greenhouse Cello Celebration, the International Falcone Tuba Competition at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Festival, and Passion Flute.
Betsi and her husband, cellist Brian Hodges, have performed at numerous venues across the U.S., Canada, and Italy, as Duo Navona. During the summers, she has held chamber music residencies at the Banff Centre for the Arts, the Rome Festival, the International Fine Arts Institute in Moscow, Russia, and the Hampden Sydney Festival in Virginia. She was a founding member and performer with the Rothko Piano Trio, 208 Ensemble and the Tree City Chamber Players.
Betsi has taught piano at Guilford College, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and College of Idaho. She has played with the Boise Philharmonic and performs extensively as a collaborative pianist throughout the Treasure Valley.
