The winner provides ongoing educational support or programming, provides a stewardship message through events and programs, and/or organizes events that support the park and/or the gateway communities.
A relatively new PPFF Friends chapter, the Friends of Worlds End are a dedicated core group, with supporters around the state and beyond. They have accomplished tremendous improvements to the park’s facilities, trails, and educational programs. A sample of their projects includes a new campground amphitheater completed with funds earned through sales of firewood/ice and donations, an annual “Worlds End Day” for the public, teaching and equipment support of the park’s Explore Archery program, the relocation and dedication of a historical marker, and the creation of a Friends of Worlds End State Park patch.
The Friends also worked to add the East Branch Trail to the park’s trail system and created a full-sized map, “Trails in and around Worlds End State Park,” to help visitors explore the park. This inspired another map featuring the waterfalls and vistas of the park and surrounding areas. The Friends distribute a quarterly e-newsletter to all members and interested individuals detailing projects, events, and historical/cultural activities and have an active social media presence.
This hard-working, creative, and committed group has benefited not only the park, but the thousands of visitors who come seeking recreational, educational, and cultural opportunities at Worlds End. Learn more about the group here.
