Educator and philanthropist Judith McCartin Scheide was a community leader who had an unshakeable belief that all worthy causes are attainable. Born in St. Paul, Minn, to James and Mary Dalglish, she attended St. Mark’s Elementary School and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy. She earned a master’s degree in English literature from the University of Minnesota, where she began a life-long interest in the work of English literary figure Dr. Samuel Johnson.
Judy was an educator, activist, and philanthropist who had a remarkable influence on so many. A creative teacher who never stopped learning, Judy worked as a Montessori teacher in Wilmington, Del. She was elected to the board of the American Montessori Society and served as vice president of the organization. Her Montessori specialty was teaching science, and she created a science curriculum for the Montessori classroom.
Judy and her husband Bill supported local and national philanthropic efforts for so many causes, including advocating for the arts, literacy and education, racial equality, and civil rights. The Princeton Symphony Orchestra counted Scheide among its dedicated benefactors. Her involvement with the PSO spanned decades, with over 10 years as a trustee and, more recently, as a co-sponsor of our POPS! series and regular supporter of our Annual Gala. We’re so fortunate to be part of her legacy of live-arts leadership and patronage.
