Biographies

Michael Wall is an internationally recognized composer, performer, and educator who collaborates with dancers, choreographers, and filmmakers around the world. He composes original music, accompanies dance classes, and teaches sound design for dance and performance with Ableton Live. Michael has worked at Rutgers University, Princeton University, NYU, The Ohio State University, the Bates Dance Festival, the American Dance Festival and The University of Utah, School of Dance. He continues to support independent artists in digital music distribution and offers a comprehensive online library of music for dance students, teachers, and choreographers. Miranda Lawson
(she/her) is a Boston-based dancer and choreographer. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Dance and Psychology from Mount Holyoke College. Miranda has performed in works by Meg Anderson, Chloe London, Jenna Riegel, and Wendy O’Byrne and in TU Dance’s One restaged by Kaitlin Bell. She has also collaborated professionally with Boston-based companies Urbanity Dance and Contemporarily Out of Order. Miranda has attended Bates Dance Festival, was an intern for Boston University’s REACH Summer Dance program, and has shown her own work at the American College Dance Association Conference. She is currently a choreographic resident through the Urbanity X residency program for the 2022 season and is working professionally on Concourse with Barbie Diewald and Shakia Barron, which was most recently in residence at Jacob’s Pillow, High Street Studios, and MAGMA.


Zuri Humphrey
, a current sophomore at the University of Houston, has been dancing since the age of four and will graduate with both a BFA in Dance and a BA in Liberal Studies. As a classically trained ballet dancer, she recognizes the challenges as well as the necessary cultural shift the ballet world requires and is a strong advocate for inclusivity within the art form. Besides ballet, Zuri has enjoyed pursuing a variety of other dance styles, such as modern, jazz, contemporary, and African dance forms. Zuri has performed in an array of showcases, recitals, summer intensive performances, and even concept videos and hopes to expand into the world of choreography in coming years with aspirations of venturing into the professional dance world following her graduation.


Kendahl Bermudez
is an Afro-Latina working towards a BFA and earned her associate's degree from Florida School of the Arts where she trained under Jessica Mayhew Borerro and Mary Love Ward. Kendahl began dancing at 15 in high school and trained under the late Wendy Ellis. After being awarded funds from the Police Athletic League, Kendahl was able to work under Wendy Ellis to teach dance to local underprivileged youth. During a hiatus from training, Kendahl began a full time administrative position for one of the largest ballet companies in the United States. Kendahl worked with administrative and creatives such as Lauren Anderson, Melissa Bowman, and Angie Lane. Bittersw(WE)et (2021), based on losing her mentor, Wendy Ellis, and Atrapada (2021) were entered into the 2022 ACDA Screendance Film Festival. Kendahl’s first production, V1, premiered in March 2022.


Alex Roberson
(he/him) is a junior double major in Dance and Acting at Rowan University in New Jersey. Alex has performed in works by Dawn Marie Bazemore, Paul Turner, Leslie Elkins, Leslie Bush, Kelley Russel, Joshua Harriman, and Miracle Myles. He has also trained with artists such as Ron Wood and Michael Dean Morgan. Alex's passion for dance stems from his love of music, considering himself an avid listener of many genres. He began dancing freestyle and improvisation exploring different facets of his body through popping and Hip-hop. Continuing his desire to learn more about dance in university through modern dance and various floor movements, Alex hopes to pursue dance throughout and after school, always pushing to learn more.


Karmen Moore
is a dancer, choreographer, educator, and President’s Scholar earning her BFA in Dance Performance with a minor in Biological Sciences at Southern Methodist University. She began her training at the age of four before moving to Dance Dynamics Memphis to continue her training in many styles. During this time, she trained at Collage Dance Collective for five years under several artists such as Andrea Long-Naidu, Kevin Iega Jeff, and Arthur Mitchell. She then attended the Ailey School summer program in which she performed a new work by Levi Marsman. At SMU, she has performed new works by Silas Farley, Pat Taylor, Michelle Gibson, Mark Burrell, and Zach Ingram. Karmen continues to pursue dance as she graduates May 2023.


Allysen Olsen
grew up on a farm in the wild west with an untamed love for cows and dancing. She obtained her BS in dance from University of Idaho, graduating cum laude and National Honor Society of Dance Arts, allowing her to combine her love of dance with science/research with classes such as anatomy, biomechanics, and motor-behavior while researching physicality and the empathetical transfer between dance performer-spectator. Scholarships have allowed her to train and perform with companies and artists from around the world at various intensives, conferences, and master classes. Allysen danced, choreographed, and taught classes with Atlas Dance Collective in Salt Lake City for the 21-22 season. In addition, she is a dance educator at studios and private school programs and an Adjunct Professor at Salt Lake Community College.

 
Kim Jun-hyuk graduated from Chungnam National University in Daejeon, Korea, majoring in dance and modern dance, and is studying for a master's degree in dance at the university. He is interested in learning and has been active as a dancer for three years in the Meta-Dance Project. He has appeared in a number of choreographers’ works such as Professor Choi Sung-ok, Kwak Young-eun, Jeong Jin-ah, and Hwang Ji-young.


Park So-hyeon
is a native of Daejeon, South Korea. She became interested in dance from an early age, so she learned dance through K-pop dance and jazz and then started dancing as a minor in ballet, majoring in modern dance. After graduating from the Department of Dance at Daejeon Arts High School and Chungnam National University, she is working for the Meta Dance Project Dance Company. Having recently graduated from university, she is now beginning her professional career. She has appeared in the works of many seniors and teachers since she was a student: Choi Sung-ok, Kwak Young-eun, Hwang Ji-young, Bang Ji-sun, etc.


Kwon Jinchul
is from Daejeon, South Korea. He is a member of the Meta-Dance Project and has studied contemporary dance and ballet.  He earned his Master of Dance at Chungnam National University and is an educator, contemporary dancer, and choreographer who teaches in the acting arts department of Daejeon Arts High School. His choreographic works include I Do Not Love Me (2017), Second Emotions (2019) and a major award-winning film and that appeared in the 2016 Seoul International Dance Festival entitled Inside. He has performed in Daejeon Arts Center Spring Festival Carmina Burana, Modafe (International Mordern Dance Festival) Bossi, la, Korea Dance Festival Grand Prize, Off Station ll, and 2021 Daejeon Arts Center Spring Festival. He learned from such artists as Choi Sung-ok and worked with a number of choreographers including Choi Sung-ok,  Kwak Young-eun, Jung Jin-ah, Hwang Ji-young, Bang Ji-sun, and Kim Young-hum


Born and raised in the suburbs of Washington, DC, jay beardsley is a white, nonbinary movement and multimedia artist currently based in Brooklyn, NY. jay attended Virginia Commonwealth University's Dance and Choreography department, graduating summa cum laude in May 2020 holding both an Outstanding Choreographer award and the Bobby Chandler Award for Theatre. they are a dancer with NYC based company Ballez, under the direction of Katy Pyle, a fellow with TheRedProjectNYC, under the direction of Johnnie Cruise Mercer, a mentee of the queer femme dance company MICHIYAYA Dance, under the direction of Anya and Mitsuko Clarke-Verdery, and a teacher of movement at various local venues and in the DOE schooling systems. jay has performed professionally with the likes of Johnnie Cruise Mercer, Michelle Thompson-Ulerich, and Sinclair Ogaga Emoghene and studied under artists such as Katy Pyle, Jenna Riegel, Andre Zachery, MK Abadoo, Trebien Pollard, Sidra Bell, and Kristopher K.Q. Pourzal, among others. jay’s choreographic work has recently been produced by organizations such as Movement Research, Dance Place, and the Richmond Dance Festival. 


Mooshi Gomez
is a cis-gender woman of African American, Latina, and Caribbean descent. Gomez is a Brooklyn, NY, native. She was introduced to the art of dance at the young age of four and has been dancing ever since. Gomez was trained at Devore Dance Center located in Hollis, Queens. Gomez currently attends North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC, known as an Historically Black College and University. Gomez has a minor in Dance with a double major in Theatre and Mass Communications with a concentration in Broadcast Media. Her expected graduation is May 2024. She is a member of the Repertory Dance Company at NCCU, an academic dance program. Gomez was a soloist for an art exhibition “Memory is Ritual: A Remembrance of Ourselves” that showcased how black women lament, grieve, and find hope featured in the North Carolina Museum of Art in October 2021. 


Hayley McGovern
is a dance artist and choreographer currently based between Boston, MA, and Harrisonburg, VA. She has a diverse background in modern,  contemporary, Hip-hop, and jazz dance forms. As of this past May, she is a recent graduate of James Madison University where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Dance, holding the Excellence in Choreography Award from the School of Theatre and Dance where she trained under artists such as Matt Pardo, Ryan Corriston, Cynthia Thompson, and Shane O'hara. She has performed in guest artist residencies including Ballet Hispánico and Emily Cargill and Dancers as well as faculty work by Ryan Corriston while at JMU. Hayley has been a member of the Associate Dance Ensemble and the Contemporary Dance Ensemble where she has performed in numerous student works. Hayley’s choreographic works have been showcased in the Student Dance Concerts, including one of her most recent works presented in the New Voices in Dance Concert at James Madison University. Hayley plans to continue working in both concert and commercial dance contexts post graduation. 


Madeline Denman
is a recent graduate of The Ohio State University with a BFA in Dance with Distinction in the Arts. She found her love of dance at Stivers School for the Arts where she attended IABD, the Ailey School Summer Program, and other summer training programs. She has performed in works by Abby Zbikowski, Bebe Miller, Crystal Michelle Perkins, and Paul Taylor as well as collaborating in a dance film featuring the entire department of dance led by Momar Ndiaye and Mitchell Rose. As a creator she works in the intersections of dance, technology, and film; most recently she created two parallel works, an intermedia solo Loaming and a group dance film. Currently she is based in Columbus serving as lead curator for Dance@30fps, a dance film festival, while finishing her BA in Communication Technology.


Wileydy Contrera
, born and raised in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic,  trained formally at The National Fine Arts School (ENDANZA) where she graduated with honors in 2018. In recent years she’s been performing for prestigious choreographers such as Anabel Lopez Ochoa (New York City Ballet, Ballet Hispánico) and Karol Marenco (Kilometros Dance Company) while dancing professionally as part of the National Contemporary Company of the Fine Arts, branch of the Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic. As a dance instructor she shares her experience discovering and helping new talents at Aida Guzman’s Dance Center where she also developed her first choreographic piece representing the school at the Orlando’s All Dance World Competition in Florida, which earned first place. She also works for Danzante Popular Theater Foundation as a Contemporary Dance Instructor since 2018 and is head of production and Co-founder of Contemporary Identity Independent Dance Company since 2020. 
In 2021, she represented the Dominican Republic and Contemporary ID performing the choreographed piece Martirio de una Rosa at the Solo Dance Festival in Ankara, Turkey. Wileydy is also following a career path in advertising as a student at Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo.


Madelyn James is from Salemburg, NC, and a senior at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC, where she is majoring in Dance. Maddie is a member of Meredith Dance Theatre and the Meredith Jazz and Tap Ensemble. She also performs with Fierce International Rhythmic Expression and Meredith Improv. In addition to performing and choreographing for shows at Meredith, she has stage managed two main stage shows and is thrilled to be stage managing here at ADF. She leads the Premier Dance Company at Carolina Dance Company in competitive dance in Clinton and Roseboro, NC.


DAVID FERRI 
has worked with prominent choreographers such as Pina Bausch, Shen Wei, Doug Varone, Yin Mei, Eiko and Koma, Jane Comfort, David Rousseve, Jody Sperling, and Ballet Preljocaj. He has been the production manager for the prestigious American Dance Festival since 1996 training upcoming designers in America. Recipient of 1987-1988 "Bessie" award for his design of Doug Varone’s Straits and 2000-2001 "Bessie" award for sustained achievement in lighting design. Mr. Ferri is the resident lighting designer and technical director for the Vassar College dance department. Mr. Ferri was also resident lighting designer and technical director at PS 122 from 1985 to 1991. Mr. Ferri lives in New York between his travels and projects. He has been working with Rosie Herrera Dance Theatre since 2010.
