In 1976, a dual murder occurred on the Tehran American School grounds where I was the only Iranian-born and raised student. Two American students were lured to a remote part of campus by two Iranians and fatally stabbed through the fence separating us from the vast, deserted landscape. When my family later fled to rural Pennsylvania, citizenship roles were dramatically reversed, and I was targeted. Now, as a resident of the Southeast, I see a cyclical repetition of power struggles where histories are as pivotal as they are dismissed. Are things the same, or are they different?
