Julia Feldman received her training under Pamela Hayes of Pamela Hayes Classical Ballet and began her professional career with Sacramento Ballet in 2011. Now in her 17th season with the company, she discovered her passion for choreography through Sacramento Ballet’s annual Beer and Ballet program, creating a new work annually since 2012. She has since created more than 40 original works. In 2019, she was selected for the National Choreographers Initiative in Irvine, California, under the direction of Molly Lynch. In 2021, she was one of three choreographers commissioned to co-create a new Nutcracker for Sacramento Ballet. The following year, she was selected for New York City Ballet’s New York Choreographic Institute, directed by Adrian Danchig-Waring.
Her first full-work commission for Sacramento Ballet, Hearts, premiered in 2022 and returns to the stage this season. It was followed by two commissions in 2025, Pockets of Light and All I See Sometimes. In 2026, Feldman was named the winning choreographer of Milwaukee Ballet’s Genesis competition; created Éclat for Grainger Academy of The Joffrey Ballet’s Winning Works; choreographed Wallflower for Smuin Contemporary Ballet; and was honored to be among the final choreographers selected to participate in the National Choreographers Initiative’s final year.
In 2015, Feldman co-founded Capital Dance Project (CDP), a Sacramento-based collective of professional dancers dedicated to creating world-premiere works in collaboration with local visual artists and musicians. She has premiered 11 works for the company to date and helps lead the organization’s artistic vision, programming, artist management, production, fundraising, and community engagement through its annual Behind the Barre festival and Digital Series.
