Nie Er was a famous Chinese composer best known for his March of the Volunteers, the national anthem of the People’s Republic of China. Considered a classic of contemporary Chinese music, this piece has been widely performed at Chinese festivals, celebrations, and concerts. The composition is based on the folk melody Dao Ba Ban (Reverse Eight Beats).
