Advancing Medical Music Therapy Practice: New Horizons in Neurocritical Care
Kerry Devlin, PhD, LPMT, MT-BC

Friday, April 25 at 2:15 p.m.
Ruebush Hall, Room 128
Livestreamed via Zoom

Music therapy holds promise as an adjunctive treatment for patients with acute brain injury (ABI) and disorders of consciousness (DoC), but its applications in a neurocritical care context have not been fully explored. In this keynote, Kerry will talk about her experiences collaborating with a team of  neurointensivists at Johns Hopkins Hospital to better understand the physiologic and psychosocial impacts of music therapy in neurocritical care for patients and their family members. Kerry will share stories about working in this unique clinical environment, preliminary physiologic data from a retrospective review, and describe emerging practice guidelines developed by her team centered on safe delivery of live music for patients in neurocritical care.
