Known for her expressive artistry and versatility, Skyy is committed to exploring a wide range of vocal repertoire spanning classical, contemporary, and jazz genres.
During her studies at Shenandoah, Skyy has taken every opportunity to grow both artistically and academically. She participated in a transformative masterclass with the world-renowned mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, which inspired her to refine her vocal technique and deepen her interpretive skills. On stage, she has performed in university productions such as Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream as a Fairy, and the innovative interdisciplinary project Caged Birds, featuring music by composers Missy Mazzoli and Ratniece Claybird.
Skyy’s upcoming engagements include singing as a chorus member in Shenandoah University’s production of Giuseppe Verdi’s Falstaff and performing the role of Mrs. Quickly for the family matinee production. These experiences further demonstrate her commitment to expanding her operatic repertoire and engaging audiences of all ages.
Throughout her academic journey, Skyy has benefitted from the guidance of Shenandoah’s distinguished faculty, including Director of Opera Ella Marchment, Maestro Jan Wagner, vocal coaches Wei-Han Wu and Maja Tremiszewska, and Shenandoah Voices choir director Dr. Richard W. Robbins. Their mentorship has helped shape Skyy’s musical identity and instilled in her a strong sense of professionalism.
In addition to her operatic and choral work, Skyy is a sought-after soloist and ensemble performer. She is a recurring vocalist with the Shenandoah Conservatory Studio Big Band.
Skyy Carter is dedicated to bringing passion, creativity, and excellence to every performance as she continues her artistic journey.
