In the opening scene of Mozart's Cosí fan tutte, the elderly philosopher Don Alfonso bet his two friends that their girlfriends will not be faithful. They stage a bogus departure for war, and the plan is for the two men to come back disguised as mysterious foreigners who attempt to woo each other's girlfriends. In this short trio, the two men are leaving, their girlfriends bid them a tearful goodbye, and Don Alfonso delights in seeing the deception unfold!
