Le printemps sur la nature (source of text unknown)
Translation © Tyson Deaton

Springtime in nature
Spread a thousand new charms
Look at this pure wave
Listen to the  birdsong.

See this tender dove
She inspires and feels the love
Eagle, I am also as faithful
As i am happy in my turn.

Of these birds in our countryside
Shepherd, I envied their happiness.
But I haven’t changed my consort
Ah! I see the same ardor in them.

Your voice expresses the charms
Of the tender love that intoxicates us
But you say nothing of the tears
Shed by a fickle shepherd.

Zephyr, in every rose
Sees the same radiance, the same beauty,
Their resemblance is the cause
He gives to his lightness.

You shine among your equals
Like a lily in the field.
When you fear no rival
Should you fear the fickle?

Although your temper be fickle
And I sense the danger
Shepherd, I accept your tribute
And I promise to hope.

Of sweet indifference
I no longer feel the quiet sweetness
To fear your inconstancy,
It is to find that you reign in my heart.

Seductive god of our age,
By whom the universe is beautified,
You you receives for homage
All the thrills you produce.

Hear my voice imploring you:
Eternalize our happiness!
Preserve for me what I adore
And reign forever in our hearts.
