Shannon Kiewitt serves as a clarinetist and low clarinetist with “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in Washington, D.C.
Before joining the Marine Band, she was a member of the United States Army Field Band at Fort Meade, Maryland (2001–2008), and the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Band at Fort Monroe, Virginia (2008–2010). She has performed at the Belgian Clarinet Academy in Ostend, Belgium (1998 and 1999), attended the International Orchestra Institute Attergau in Austria (2000), and was a semi-finalist in the International Clarinet Association Young Artist Competition (2003).
With “The President’s Own,” Kiewitt performs with both the Marine Band and Marine Chamber Orchestra at the White House, throughout the Washington, D.C., area, and across the country during the band’s annual concert tour. She has been featured as a soloist with the Marine Band six times and was recently selected as a tour soloist for the 2025 National Concert Tour. She also performed as a soloist at The Midwest Clinic, presenting String Quintet in E Major, op. 1, arranged for reed quintet by Gunnery Sgt. Trevor Mowry.
Kiewitt’s appearances on behalf of “The President’s Own” include frequent recitals, educational presentations and masterclasses. She was a headlining artist performing with the ConTempo String Quartet at the International Clarinet Association’s ClarinetFest in Dublin, Ireland. She has also presented numerous masterclasses and workshops at institutions including Indiana University, the University of Illinois, the University of Utah, the Lamont School of Music, ICA ClarinetFest, Steel City Clarinet Day, Navy Band Clarinet Day, Clarinet Academy of America and Gettysburg Clarinet Day, among others.
In addition to her musical responsibilities, Kiewitt serves as the Marine Band’s Unit Fitness Instructor, leading the unit’s Supplemental Conditioning Program. She holds a Master Trainer Certification with credentials as a certified fitness trainer, professional nutrition coach and in exercise therapy, corrective exercise, weight management, behavior modification, and strength and conditioning. Kiewitt represents the band nationwide through her Health & Wellness for Musicians lectures, sharing practical guidance on physical fitness and wellbeing for performing artists.
