What is peace? Peace is a state of tranquility, harmony and freedom from conflict, whether through the absence of war between nations, the end of public disturbance or a personal state of inner calm. Peace can also describe quiet, stillness or a state of well-being. "Shalom" is a Hebrew word meaning "peace," but it also serves as a common greeting and farewell for "hello" and "goodbye." Its meaning extends beyond the simple absence of conflict to signify completeness, wholeness, welfare and well-being. Drawn from the bible verse John 14:27, this verse offers peace as a gift — as a reassurance. Through the use of musical textures and the juxtaposition of the English word Peace, Hebrew word Shalom and the John 14:27 verse, composer Dan Forrest creates a musical peace. A musical gift to inspire our own inner calm.
