Lamentation of the Bird for Clarinet and Piano
Polina Nazaykinskaya

Lamentation of the Bird unfolds as a symbolic journey inward — into memory, awareness, and the fragile space of longing.

Across cultures, the bird has long been a symbol of freedom and a bridge to the spiritual realm. Here, it becomes a solitary voice, searching for a place of harmony beyond suffering and ego — something deeply desired, yet always just out of reach.

The piece draws on the imagery of The Nightingale and the Rose, in which the nightingale sings through the night, pressing its heart against a thorn to create a single red rose. That image — of love inseparable from sacrifice — lies at the heart of the music.

Lamentation of the Bird is a meditation on love, loss and the quiet beauty of sacrifice.
