Not Like You
Cat Clyde

I may be a bird in a cage, but at least I have my wings.
Yours were sawed off with your talons put in chains.
And it’s not your fault, but you are locked up just the same.
Nobody told you you could fly.
They told you no one needs wings.
And one day my door will open, and I will fly free.
These shackles will be broken and you will see

That I am drifting, sifting through the sands of time.
I will squeeze all the juices. I won’t leave one drop behind.
I am never alone because I have you by my side.
And though we are followed by the wolves in the dark,
we will always need the sunrise.

And I am not like you.
I cannot be bent into that mold.
I can never be convinced it’s true
that you only see what you’ve been told.
And in my daydream, underneath the endless sky.
I cannot sleep. I cannot sleep and watch the night pass me by.

Cause I am drifting, sifting through the sands of time.
I will squeeze all the juices. I won’t leave one drop behind.
I am never alone because I have you by my side.
And though we are followed by the wolves in the dark,
we will always need the sunrise.
