Trio in B-flat major, op. 11
Ludwig van Beethoven

The oldest composed piece on the program, commonly known as the “Gassenhauer” Trio, is a charming, early-period work that blends popular Viennese culture with high-art composition. Primarily known for featuring the clarinet, a novelty in chamber music at the time, it bridges Classical refinement with early Romantic spirit, often featuring a virtuoso piano part. Composed in the middle of his rise to prominence, this work showcases some of Beethoven’s signature compositional quirks.
