Andrew Stewart is a cellist based in Northern Virginia and a founding member of the Shenandoah Piano Trio with violinist Jonathan Toomer and pianist Eoín Fleming. He maintains an active performing career, with chamber music and collaboration at the center of his work as a musician, alongside solo and orchestral performances. He has performed with artists such as Julian Schwarz, Scott Flavin, Misha Vitenson, and Chauncey Patterson, as well as faculty artists from Shenandoah University and other institutions. He has also held principal and section positions with university, festival, and professional ensembles, including the EFM Faculty Orchestra under Maestro Gerard Schwarz.
Stewart maintains a private cello studio in Winchester and teaches at The Catoctin School of Music in Leesburg and Mountain View Music in Front Royal. As a graduate assistant at Shenandoah University, he has taught applied cello lessons, led studio classes, and presented masterclasses for prospective undergraduate students. His teaching emphasizes a clear, mindful approach to technique, helping students understand the physical mechanics behind expressive playing and develop greater awareness of how technical choices affect sound, comfort, and musical expression.
Stewart holds a Master of Music in Performance (Cello) from Shenandoah University, where he studied with renowned cellist Julian Schwarz, and a Bachelor of Music in Performance (Cello) from the University of Central Florida, where he studied with David Bjella. He is currently continuing his studies at Shenandoah University as an Artist Diploma candidate.
