Scout Kirkham
Horn

Scout Kirkham first heard the sound of the French horn in kindergarten and decided right then and there that her lifelong dream would be to master the horn. Scout is currently studying for her Bachelor of Music in Performance at Shenandoah Conservatory. She is a member of the Shenandoah Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, EDGE Ensemble and Pit Orchestra. Along with playing traditional concerts, she has also been involved in many collaborative events with dancers and singers, and even a concert where the musicians move and dance.

Ms. Kirkham was a mellophone soloist at The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps, a ten-time world champion marching organization. Through this organization, Scout was surrounded by world-class performers and teachers and has learned to push through any adversity put in her way.

Kirkham received second place in the Shenandoah Conservatory Student Soloist     Competition with her honored performance of the Gliere Horn Concerto. She has also attended prestigious music festivals such as Eastern Music Festival and Interlochen Center for the Arts’ summer program.

Scout currently studies with Geoffrey Pilkington, the principal horn of the Washington National Opera. She previously studied with Cecilia Buettgen, hornist in the “The President's Own” United States Marine Band.
