Christina Raczka is an active flutist and educator throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Originally from New Jersey, she relocated to Virginia in order to pursue graduate studies at Shenandoah Conservatory with Jonathan Snowden, former principal flutist of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Christina earned a master’s degree in 2019 and will graduate with a doctorate of musical arts in flute performance in Spring 2022.
As a performer, Christina has served as principal flutist for Shenandoah Conservatory’s Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. She has also performed with the Conservatory’s new music EDGE Ensemble, flute ensemble, and pit orchestra. As an active church musician throughout the region, Christina has performed for the Diocese of Camden for the past eleven years.
Christina holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Rowan University, where she studied with Dr. Adeline Tomasone, former principal flutist of Opera Philadelphia. She performed as principal flute in the university’s wind ensemble, orchestra, and lab band. In 2011, she was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall with her professor and Rowan University alumni.
Over the years Christina has participated in several music festivals and masterclasses. She had the honor of performing with the United States Air Force Band for their first Collegiate Symposium. In previous summers she has attended soundSCAPE Composition and Performance Exchange in Maccagno, Italy, Aria International Summer Academy, and Apple Hill Summer Chamber Music Workshop. She has performed in masterclasses for Gary Schocker, Christina Jennings, and Denis Bouriakov.
As an educator Christina has taught in a variety of settings. After graduating with her bachelor’s, she taught at Camden’s Charter School Network as a middle school band director. While Christina left this position to pursue graduate studies, her teaching career did not end there. She currently maintains woodwind studios at Dolly Jones Music Studio in Marshall, VA and Reston Music in Herndon, VA. In 2019, Christina taught group flute lessons for Camp Levine at Levine School of Music in Washington D.C. This year she was asked to adjudicate the Flute Society of Washington’s Mid-Atlantic High School Flute Choir Competition. Christina is also the flute studio graduate teaching assistant at Shenandoah Conservatory, where she helps direct the flute ensemble and teaches undergraduate flute lessons.
