With Toy Box, Gottry emulates the sounds that you may hear from toys in a child’s playroom. This piece asks for multiple playful percussion instruments, including bongos, two woodblocks, a toy tambourine, a cowbell and a splash cymbal. Naturally, Toy Box represents my earliest memories playing with toys in the living room, particularly with marble sets, interactive books, building blocks and a large collection of board games.
