Carlos Felipe Viña
Bassoon

Carlos Felipe Viña is a bassoonist based in Winchester, Virginia. He is an active performer in several professional orchestras around South Florida and the Gulf Coast, having performed with Naples Philharmonic, Opera Naples, South Florida Symphony Orchestra, Florida Grand Opera and Palm Beach Symphony, among many others.

As an educator, Dr. Viña serves as adjunct professor of bassoon at New World School of the Arts in Miami (high school and college division) and was previously on the faculty of Florida Atlantic University (Boca Raton, Florida), Florida International University (Miami, Florida) and Miami Dade College (Miami, Florida). He is a co-founder of the Florida Bassoon Bash, a series of free masterclasses open to all bassoon students and band directors.

Dr. Viña also maintains an active private studio from which students have gone on to study music at The Juilliard School, Berklee College of Music and University of Central Florida, among others. His students have participated in NYO, NYO2, Florida All-State Ensembles, Philadelphia International Music Festival and the Miami Beach Music Festival.

He is a member of Madera Viva, a bassoon and percussion duo with Dr. Karlyn Viña that explores a variety of repertoire from different time periods, genres and styles, including many adaptations and arrangements created by the duo.

Dr. Viña holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Performance (Bassoon) from the University of Miami Frost School of Music, a Master of Music in Performance from Lynn University and a bachelor’s degree in bassoon performance from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia.
