James is currently on the faculty at Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. He earned a Master of Fine Arts in Scenic Design and Technology at West Virginia University and a bachelor's at DeSales University. James was recently brought on to set dress and source props for the Broadway production of A Strange Loop, currently at the Lyceum Theatre in New York. James designed for Monumental Theatre Company's Pippin, which was nominated with four Helen Hayes Awards. He designed In the Heights at Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre in 2017, which was nominated for Broadway World Regional Awards – Baltimore for Best Scenic Design. James set designed Cabaret in 2020 for Ovations Theatre of Rockville, Maryland, was nominated for Broadway Regional Awards – DC for Set Design of the Decade (Non-equity). He has worked closely with the late six-time Emmy award-winning production designer of Sesame Street Bob Phillips, as well as two-time Tony Award-nominated Broadway designer Dede Ayite. James has also done carpentry work for Round House Theatre, ARTECHOUSE, Woolly Mammoth and Constellation Theatre Company, just to name a few.
