Madeleine studied theatre design at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design and she was awarded the 2008 Design Fellowship from Independent Opera. Her recent designs include set and costume design for A Little Night Music (Leeds Playhouse, co-production with Opera North); set design for La Traviata (Komische Oper, Berlin); set and costume design for Carmen (Nikikai Opera Foundation, Tokyo); set and costume design for Wuthering Heights (Opéra National de Lorraine, Nancy); set and costume design for A Quiet Place (Opera Zuid, Maastricht – winner of a Place de L’Opera Award for Best Opera 2018); set and costume design for Powder Her Face (Royal Danish Opera, Copenhagen – winner of the 2016 Arets Reumert Prize for Best Opera Production); set and costume design for Albert Herring (Maggio Musicale, Florence); and set and costume design for the Donizetti trilogy: Anna Bolena, Maria Stuarda and Roberto Devereux (Welsh National Opera; Roberto Devereux is currently being extensively revived across European opera houses next opening in Palermo in March 2022).
Her theatre credits include Schnitzler’s Liebelei (Vorarlberger Landestheater, Bregenz); L’Histoire du Soldat (Maggio Musicale, Florence); and Six Characters in Search of an Author (Guildhall School of Music and Drama).
