Precious Lord
arr. Adrian Dunn

Take My Hand, Precious Lord was written by Thomas Dorsey in response to his inconsolable bereavement at the loss of his wife Nettie Harper in childbirth, along with their infant son in 1932. Its inclusion following The Gun Mass functions as a prayerful prologue.

Precious, Lord, take my hand,
lead me on, let me stand.
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn.

Through the storm, through the night,
Lead me on, to the light.

When my way grows drear,
Precious Lord, linger near
when my life is almost gone.

Hear my cry, hear my call,
hold my hand, lest I fall.
Precious Lord, lead me home.

This particular arrangement by Adrian Dunn is dedicated to Trayvon Martin, a seventeen-year-old young Black man shot and killed in 2012.
