Amick-Newton Duo

Founded in 2017, the Amick-Newton Duo is a collaboration between American percussionists Christopher Amick and William Newton. Dedicated to the creation and presentation of new music, the duo is committed to commissioning, composing and performing music for the contemporary percussion repertoire.

The duo met at the University of South Carolina as undergraduates and continued their studies at the prestigious Eastman School of Music. They have collaborated on many high-profile chamber performances at the University of South Carolina, the South Carolina Day of Percussion and the Eastman School of Music. They have also performed in masterclasses with world-renowned musicians Michael Burritt, Escape X Duo, Doug Perkins and Third Coast Percussion, as well as collaborating on the premiere recording of John Fitz Rogers’ Under Strange Stars, JaRon Brown’s Azure’s Remoulade and Michael Burritt’s Iunctio

Advocates for expanding the percussion idiom repertoire, the duo recently commissioned works by such diverse composers as Nate Werth, Paul Lansky, Emmanuel Sejourne, David Skidmore, Michael Calamas and JaRon Brown. Amick and Newton also actively compose works for chamber music and percussion solos which they publish through Wildlight Publications, the company they co-founded with two other colleagues in 2020.

Current repertoire consists of varied compositions from the Wildlight Publications artist roster including a mixture of electroacoustic and acoustic works for marimba and vibraphone duo, marimba duo and drumset duo.
