This overture is based on an original score composed by Nazziola for the 82-minute silent film (Der Golem) directed by Paul Wegener. The score reveals an amalgam of influences on Jewish music (including Sephardic, Greek, Arabic, and Turkish), which Nazziola incorporated into his own compositional approach. The score was composed to be frame-accurate with the film and has been performed live throughout the United States of America.
