Alberto Grau stands as a prominent figure in the realm of contemporary Venezuelan music, renowned for his contributions as a composer, conductor, and educator. Kasar mie la gaji, inspired by the urgent call for global action to protect the environment, carries a message from Grau: “For an international mobilization to save THE EARTH and a conscientious effort regarding the problems of the environment. The inhabitants of the African Sahel [the dry region just south of the Sahara] say: ‘Kasar mie la gaji,’ ‘The earth is tired.’” Grau musically portrays the earth's exhaustion through dissonant harmonies and expressive vocalizations such as whispering, shouting, and groaning from the choir.
