The only opera in English composed by Weber, Oberon brings together the old myths of the English saga surrounding the King of the Fairies (Oberon) and the medieval French tale of Huon de Bordeaux. At the center of the story, we have on a side Oberon with his promise to not reconcile with his Queen Titania until he has found a couple of humans who are faithful to each other through difficult challenges, and the adventures inspired by the Middle-eastern tales of the sumptuous palaces of Baghdad and the perilous pirates’ ships infesting the Mediterranean Sea. Reiza, the betrothed of Huon, becomes the heroin of the opera and the woman that allows Puck, the mischievous jester and servant of Oberon’s, to deliver his master a couple that has resisted through a variety of temptations and stayed in love despite all of them.
