Maurice Fraga is originally from San Francisco, California, and has earned B.A., M.A and M.F.A. degrees in dance from the University of California, Santa Cruz, The College at Brockport, and the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, respectively. He has danced for Ben Munisteri Dance, David Parker and the Bang Group, the Kevin Wynn Collection, Michael Foley Dance, Creach/Company, the Tiffany Mills Company, the Mark Morris Dance Group, the Montreal-based company O Vertigo, and Dublin-based Fluxusdance.

In 2012 and 2013, Fraga was commissioned by the National Dance Company of El Salvador to create new works for their repertory: the evening-length work Sí…así and Rehuir. Fraga’s own work has been presented at many venues, including the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Centre, the Merce Cunningham Studio (New York City), Movement Research at Judson Church (New York City), Dumbo Dance Festival (New York City), Cool NY Dance Festival (New York City), Next Stage Project (New York City), ReverbDance Festival (New York City), The Hatch (New York City), L.I.T. at Bill Young’s Studio (New York City), National Theater of San Salvador, Ocho y Medio (Quito), Centro de Arte Contemporaneo (Quito), Studio 303 (Montreal), Guasch Theatre (Barcelona), L’EDQ (Quebec), Tsoying Senior High School in Kaohsiung (Taiwan), the Maryland Dance Council, Joy of Motion Studio (Washington, D.C.), the Performance Garage (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), New World School of the Arts (Miami, Florida), University of Maryland, College Park, San Francisco Institute of Choreography, The Yard at Martha’s Vineyard, Shenandoah University, James Madison University, Cleveland State University, Allegheny College, Hathaway Brown School (Cleveland, Ohio), Ballina Arts Centre (Ireland), Castlebar Arts Centre (Ireland), and at ACDA Festivals at University of Utah, Muhlenberg College, and Towson University.

He has taught at many universities, colleges and studios in the United States, as well as in Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, France, Greece, Ireland, Macedonia, Taiwan, Spain and the United Kingdom.

His choreography has received various awards at choreographic competitions in Spain, and his musical score for the documentary Exploring Hinterland, was nominated for Best Sound Music Score at the 2013 International Filmmaker Festival of World Cinema in London, UK. He has been on the dance faculty at Shenandoah University since 2009 and is the artistic director of his own dance company, Ekilibre.
