Thayer Sarrano grew up in Southeast, coastal Georgia. She was the daughter of a priest and an opera singer and has been exposed to a diverse range of music since a young age. She studied classical piano since age three, then went on to take up organ in church, oboe, and drumline in school, and then to study piano performance in college. After school, Thayer relocated to Athens, Goergia, where she joined tons of bands, touring with Montreal, Cracker, Camper Van Beethoven, collaborating with members of R.E.M., Widespread Panic, Drive-By Truckers, T. Hardy Morris, and many more. In 2009, Thayer broke out as a solo artist. Her original music has often been called “southern-gothic” or as Huffington Post called it, “a Southern-psych dreamland, bottling up ghosts and bringing them to life through her ethereal hymns.” She has released five LPs, a live EP with strings, and several singles and videos, as well as books of artwork related to the lyrics. She has worked as a composer for documentaries and short films and has had several of her songs featured on several network television shows. Over the last decade, Thayer has lived on and off in Nashville, Tennessee, balancing her life as a session pianist and fronting her own band.
