The cast of 2024 clocks in to a film set portraying their imagined world of Cheryomushki. After signing in for work and assuming roles of 1950s characters we are introduced to the residents of Cheryomushki, who gather in order to engage in idle gossip as well as the key heroes and villains of the piece. 

The construction worker Lucy is waiting for her chauffeur friend Sergei to meet her. He is planning to ask her to marry him but is desperately trying to pluck up the courage to ask her. Because of his fear he ends up being late which plunges Lucy into an existential crisis in which she shuns love as meaningless.
