We open Act II with Boris helping Lidochka break into her apartment to have a look around with the help of a crane driver. Once again Boris attempts to seduce Lidochka by claiming that he can be her night, but she pushes back and says she’d much rather have a man like Elvis.
The attempted seduction is short lived as Barabashkin arrives in the apartment by knocking a hole through a wall. It is Baburov and Lidochka’s apartment that has been selected to be the extension to Drebyenetsov and Vara’s and he is keen to impress authority by showing how quick he is to action a request. Baburov and Lidochka yet again find themselves homeless. Lucy overhears this and quickly kicks into action. She will not stand for this abuse of power.
Meanwhile Sasha and Masha have managed to get into their apartment too and are enjoying the fact that they have a place to themselves by unpacking. However, their domestic idyll is swiftly disturbed when a group of residents invite themselves over for a party that quickly grows rowdy and out of hand. The mood changes when Lucy arrives in order to deliver the news that Lidochka and Baburov have been swindled out of a home. She explains to the party goers what has happened and the residents together decide that they must rally together in order to stop Barabashkin and Drebyenetsov.
Meanwhile Boris attempts to cheer Lidochka up (who is having increasingly conflicting feelings about Boris) by conjuring up a fantasy in which Barabashkin arrives in a rainbow tutu and presents her with a key to her own apartment on a cloud. However, the fantasy is short lived as when the fantasy concludes Vara appears and takes Boris away with her. Lidochka is left without her potential suitor and without a house feeling sorry for herself.
