Ralph Vaughan Williams was a well-known English composer who had written many operas, ballets, chamber music, vocal music and symphonies. He was strongly influenced by Tudor music and English folk-song. Six Studies in English Folk Song follows the pattern of the presentation of the folk melody in the euphonium part followed by a full iteration of the tune in the piano part.
