Dream role. Dream show. Dream company. Thom is thrilled to be back at Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre (SSMT), having played Tateh in 2019’s production of Ragtime, as well as Horace Vandergelder and the Pharaoh in last season’s Hello, Dolly! and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, respectively. Most recently, Thom returns from a stint on Broadway in Disney’s The Lion King, with which he has spent the better part of twenty years; playing Scar, Zazu, Timon and Pumbaa, as well as having served as resident director of the second national tour, and “Cub Director” of the Shanghai production.

Broadway and tours include Once Upon a Mattress, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Into the Woods, Copacabana. Select regional favorites include the world premiere of Barry Manilow and Bruce Sussman’s Harmony (Harry) at the La Jolla Playhouse, Peter and the Starcatcher (Black Stache) at Theatre Aspen, La Cage Aux Folles (Albin), Pippin (Charles/Berthe), Spring Awakening (Adult Male), White Christmas (Bob Wallace) and Sondheim on Sondheim (Norm), all at Short North Stage in Columbus, Ohio; Next to Normal (Dan) at Porthouse Theatre; The Laramie Project; Epilogue (Greg, etc.) at Hartford Rep; Gypsy (Yonkers/Pastey) at the Paper Mill Playhouse and Babes in Arms (Peter) at The Guthrie. This past Christmas, Thom enjoyed the privilege of penning a new adaptation of A Christmas Carol, with orchestrations by SSMT’s own Tom Albert and direction by SSMT alum, Edward Carignan, and which played historic theaters in both Columbus, Ohio, and New Haven, Connecticut. Following Fiddler, Thom heads to Theatre Aspen to join their production of Come From Away, and is beyond grateful to be spending the summer telling stories deeply rooted in community and shared humanity.
