A celebrated musician based in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area, Schuyler Jackson is the second bassoonist in the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO), a position he has held since 2014. In the 2022/23 season, Schuyler also held a one-year position in the Minnesota Orchestra, performing as a full-time member of the bassoon section. A multifaceted musician, Schuyler has performed as substitute principal bassoon in the Minnesota Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, and Bach in Baltimore. Schuyler has appeared with numerous other orchestras throughout the United States, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Washington National Opera, and Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.
Schuyler’s playing can be heard on the Minnesota Orchestra: Mahler Symphony No. 3 (2024) recording and the Naxos albums Bernstein: Marin Alsop’s Complete Naxos Recordings (2018) and Sergey Prokofiev’s Romeo & Juliet (2018) with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Recordings of his performances have been broadcast live from the BBC Proms, NPR & WNYC’s Ask Me Another podcast, WBJC-FM, WABE-FM, Georgia Public Broadcasting, and YourClassical MPR from Minnesota Public Radio. An avid chamber musician, Schuyler is passionate about getting out into the community to perform new and lesser-known chamber music works with his colleagues. He has performed chamber music at public and private schools in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area, Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, Enoch Pratt Free Library, Baltimore County Public Library, Austin Minnesota Public Library, Baltimore VA Medical Center, The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore Penn-Station, American Visionary Art Museum, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, for the Baltimore Symphony Musicians Subway Series at the Charles Center Metro Subway Station, and in a trio representing the Baltimore Symphony in collaboration with University of Maryland and Sound Impact for the Voices of Prince George’s County program at Bowie Branch Library in Maryland. Additionally, Schuyler is a frequent performer on the Community Concerts at Second Chamber Music by Candlelight series in Baltimore, where he has collaborated with colleagues to perform the works of André Jolivet, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Clara Schumann, Justinian Tamusuza, André Previn, Valerie Coleman, Ludwig van Beethoven, Francis Poulenc, Joseph Canteloube, Heinrich Molbe, and others.
