SARAH RUHL is a two-time Pulitzer prize finalist and Tony award nominee, and the recipient of a MacArthur “Genius” Grant. Her fourteen plays include Eurydice, The Clean House, and In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play. Her plays have been done on and off-Broadway, regionally, and internationally. She studied playwriting with Paula Vogel at Brown University, where she recently received an honorary doctorate. Her books include Smile, a memoir and 100 Essays I Don’t have Time to Write (a New York Times notable book) and the upcoming Letters from my Teachers. Mostly recently, her plays Letters from Max and Orlando were done at Signature Theatre as part of her residency. Her operas include Eurydice (Metropolitan opera, with Matthew Aucoin) and The Seasons (with Vivaldi.)  An alum of New Dramatists, she has received the Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Award, Whiting Writers’ Award, Lily Award, Susan Smith Blackburn, and PEN Center Award for a mid-career playwright. For the past twelve years, she’s taught at the Geffen School for Drama at Yale, where she is currently professor of playwriting. She lives in Brooklyn with her family.
