Timothy J. McClimon is a recognized leader of nonprofit and philanthropic organizations and programs.
As President of the American Express Foundation and SVP for Corporate Social Responsibility, American Express, Tim directed the company’s global philanthropy, sustainability and employee engagement programs from 2006 to 2021.
Prior to American Express, Tim was Executive Director of Second Stage Theatre. He also served as the Executive Director of the AT&T Foundation where he directed AT&T’s global philanthropy and citizenship programs.
Earlier in his career, Tim worked as a lawyer specializing in not-for-profit corporate law and served as a program administrator at the National Endowment for the Arts.
Tim is currently the Executive Director of Signature Theatre and an adjunct professor at New York University where he teaches graduate courses in nonprofit and arts management.
Tim is also an ESG Fellow with The Conference Board where he is coordinating a NextGen Mentorship Program in Corporate Citizenship, and he serves on the boards of the Mark Morris Dance Group and Signature Theatre.
Throughout his career, Tim has served on 50+ board and committee roles at 30+ nonprofit organizations at national and local levels, including leading the boards of directors at the American Express Foundation and AT&T Foundation.
Tim has presented at several hundred conferences and graduate school classes on corporate social responsibility, management, and cause marketing. Additionally, he has been a featured spokesperson in numerous newspapers, publications, and broadcasts.
He is a regular contributor to Forbes.com where he writes about the intersection of grassroots movements, philanthropy and corporate social responsibility.
