Sarah Ina Meyers

Stage Director Sarah Ina Meyers (she/her) has served on the directing staff of the Metropolitan Opera since 2006, overseeing acclaimed revivals of productions such as David McVicar’s Tosca, Julie Taymor’s The Magic Flute and John Dexter’s iconic production of Dialogues des Carmélites. She is the former Artistic Director of On Site Opera, a company renowned for its immersive, site-specific work, and directed several of the company’s most celebrated productions, including The Immersive Coffee Cantata, The Tell-Tale Heart, and Scenes from Frankenstein. A passionate advocate for contemporary works, Meyers has directed several word premieres including Ken Ueno’s Gallo (Guerilla Opera), Gregg Kallor’s Frankenstein (Arizona Opera) and Lucidity by Laura Kaminsky and David Cote, as a coproduction for OSO and Seattle Opera. Her work has been praised in Broadway World, The Boston Globe and The New York Times. In addition, Meyers is the author of an acclaimed adaptation and original translation of Die Fledermaus. ArtsFuse declared her work to be “a major feat.. blow[s] the dust off a creaky antique.”

A dedicated educator, Meyers has directed productions for the Juilliard Institute for Vocal Arts, Curtis Opera Theatre, and Boston University’s Tanglewood Institute, and has provided dramatic coaching and taught acting techniques for young artists at venerable programs including the Aspen Music Festival and School, Wolf Trap Opera, and Shared Voices, the flagship program of the Denyce Graves Foundation. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Theatre from Columbia University. Upcoming engagements include a new production of Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Curtis Opera Theatre.
