An educator since 1973, he has been on the theatre faculty of the U of Michigan, the U of Illinois, and retired from UK as a professor of costume technology.

Professor Haven also holds professional certificates from Lesage & Co in Paris as well as from the Royal School of Needlework in England. He teaches these arts in fashion programs in San Francisco and Toronto, as well as master classes in Lexington, KY. His work has been featured on two episodes of Fit2Stitch with Peggy Sager (seasons 9 and 10), viewable on the PBS website.
