Houston Tyrrell, tenor, is a native of Louisville, KY. As the 2021 Alltech Vocal Scholarship Competition First Place Graduate Award winner, Houston is currently pursuing a Master’s of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Kentucky and studies with his mentor and source of inspiration, Dr. Everett McCorvey. Recent performances with the University of Kentucky Opera Theatre program (UKOT) include “Rodolfo” in Puccini’s La bohème, “Judge Danforth” in Robert Ward’s The Crucible and a “Leading Performer” in the annual It’s a Grand Night for Singing. Upcoming performances include the roles of “Parpignol” in Cincinnati Opera's production of La bohème (as well as covering “Rodolfo” in the same production,) “The Messenger” in Cincinnati Opera's production of Verdi's Aida, as well as “Tamino” in UKOT's production of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte in the Fall of 2022. Houston is also a very talented conductor who was recently the assistant conductor for the UK Symphony Orchestra, UK Philharmonic, and UKOT program. He intends to have a life-long career in the arts full of performing, educating, and advocacy for their necessity. Houston is also a board game geek who is always down to play a game, as well as a huge fan on improv comedy!
