Sarah Ransom, a native of Chattanooga, TN, enjoys a rich career as a double bassist and teacher. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Tennessee Tech University (Cookeville, TN) where she studied with Steve Benne of the Knoxville Symphony. After completing her undergraduate degree, Sarah began her studies at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Music, where she earned a Master’s Degree in Music Performance studying with Micah Howard and Peter Guild of the Pittsburgh Symphony.
Over the years, Sarah has had the privilege of performing with many professional music organizations such as the NouLou Chamber Players, Chattanooga Symphony, Huntsville Symphony, Orchestra Kentucky, Johnstown Symphony, Bryan Symphony, Illinois Symphony, West Virginia Symphony, Lexington Philharmonic, Jackson Symphony, Nashville Opera, Nashville Ballet, and the Louisville Orchestra, as well as winning a place on the sublist with the Nashville Symphony.
Sarah also enjoys performing outside the classical realm as a studio, pit, and jazz musician. Over the years, she has had the opportunity to perform multiple seasons with the Creede Repertory Theater in Creede, Colorado as a pit and house musician. She spent several years as a member of the Tennessee Tech Faculty Jazz Ensemble and was cofounder of the All Of Us Jazz combo. Sarah has also been involved in numerous professional engagements with Ocean Way Studios in recording major motion picture soundtracks, video game soundtracks, and individual albums in Nashville, TN. She continues to spend the majority of her time as a private bass instructor, guest clinician, and freelance musician throughout the United States and recently accepted a position as Itinerant Orchestra Instructor with the Jefferson County School District in Louisville, KY.
