Kayla Wilson
Chorus

Kayla Janae Wilson, a native of Riverdale, GA, recognized a passion and talent for music when she gave her first public performance at the age of 4. Her talents were first nurtured in high school at Martha E. Stilwell School of the Arts, where she participated in several musicals, student directed the Show Choir, and performed at Carnegie Hall as a member of the Honors Performance Series Choir. Kayla’s early experiences led her to develop an affinity for musical theatre, however, she was introduced to classical music and opera while attending Jackson State University. During her time at Jackson State, she performed in several  Opera scenes with the Opera Workshop and competed in vocal competitions through the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the Music Teachers National Association where she won first and second place in the state and region. In the Summer of 2015, Kayla was cast as La Fortuna in Georgia State’s Harrower Summer Opera Workshop’s production of L’incoronazione di Poppea. Kayla is a graduate of Jackson State University, with a Bachelor of Music Performance: Voice.  Since leaving college, she has worked with Capital City Opera in Atlanta, GA, and in the summer of 2022, she performed and participated in the National Association of Negro Musicians Annual Convention.  In March of 2023, Kayla competed in the Alltech Vocal Competition at the University of Kentucky and won 3rd place. Currently, she attends the University of Kentucky where she is a Master’s student in Vocal Performance.
