Stephen Wrentmore
Director and Scenic Designer
STEPHEN WRENTMORE is a British theatre director, producer, writer, mentor, academic, curator, and change consultant. He currently works as season producer at the University of Kentucky. He is the board chair and mentor to Liminal Stage, a queer disabled-led company exploring performance, most recently with Grey Man, produced in 2022, with cinema release in 2023.
 
He was Artistic Producer at Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts, until 2018. Formally, he was Associate Artistic Director of Arizona Theatre Company, Artistic Director of the Byre Theatre in St Andrews, and has worked at The National Theatre in London, Tate Gallery, and internationally in venues from Siberia to San Francisco, most recently directing his own new adaptation of Moliere’s Scapin at Pioneer Theatre, Salt Lake City. In addition, he has published articles with TCG and is working on a project with the Kennedy Center, Washington DC, and developing his screenplay with Further Films.
 
Stephen is a proud member of the Society of Directors and Choreographers, and the regional co-coordinator for directing with KCACTF. He studied at the University of Cambridge, the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, and Oklahoma City University. He was visiting academic at the University of Oxford in 2009 and is a Fellow of the Clore Leadership Programme.
